Hello everyone and welcome back to my weekly blog. Today I am going to talk about the Dominican Republic and why I fell in love with this beautiful country.
First of all, it might be nice to know that it didn't start as a nice holiday destination, but my roots that led me to this beautiful country. My mother is Dominican and actually half of my family lives in this country. I was also raised in a Spanish language since I was young, so I can communicate quite well with the locals. Back in the day when I was younger, we used to go on holiday here almost every year. We went during the summer or at Christmas, but we always visited several cities, villages and beautiful sights.
Now that I am older, I no longer go there every year. This is partly because tickets have become more expensive than before but also because I want to see even more beautiful gems of the world. The Dominican Republic has certainly stolen my hard. In this country I fell in love with the beautiful colors of nature. The many palm trees and the beautiful beaches and hidden waterfalls. But also, the cozy small villages or the larger cities where you can acquire a lot of culture knowledge.
There are many beautiful destinations in this country that I want to talk about with you. I also want to give you a look at the real hotspots of this country and I want to take you into the life of the locals.
These destinations you need to know about!

1. Salto El Limón
Salto El Limon is probably the most popular Watherfall of the whole country. It is a hidden watherfall the 2.5 km journey to get there can be done on foot if the person is in good physical shape, or it can be done on horseback. Salto El Limon is not the tallest waterfall but it is a 50 m tall. It has been nominated as the most beautiful in the whole country. Definitely worth looking up. I recommend going by horse. It is a really fun experience and the animals are lovely! Even whit children it is a really wonderful adventure to go to! Even though the water is freezing cold, if you get all you need together you can enjoy a wonderful dip in this incredibly cold water.

2.Las Terrenas
Las Terrenas is a city on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, located in the province of Samaná. It is known for its picturesque landscapes, sand beaches and clear waters. I wanted to share this location with you all because here I fell in love with stand up paddle boarding. I stood for the first time on a normal surf board but because there were no ways a guy asked me if I wanted to use a paddle and that wow I totally fell in love with stand up paddle boarding. The view, the clear sea it just made sense. it was meant for me to discover this new hobby.

3. La Zona Colonial.
Ciudad Colonial is Santo Domingo's historic central neighborhood. As a small child I put down a lot of footsteps here. Today, the entire colonial district, Zona Colonial, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you want to feel and taste more of the history, you should definitely go here. beautiful old buildings. many streets still in their old state, cute squares, For some it will look a bit run down. but that's just part of such an old zone. nevertheless, I definitely recommend going here and then enjoy the cozy terraces and restaurnts in the evening.

4. Samaná.
Samaná is on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. It is known for the mountains of which it is almost entirely formed. Samaná has numerous beaches. Why i love samana becauase it has a giant long bridge that leads you exactly to nothing. The walkway crosses the sea along very beautiful islands. Funny fact, the artist Prince Royce has recorded a video clib here that shows all the beauty of this location. And that while I had discovered this bridge years ago.

5. Playa Bahia de Las Aguilas
This is literally the most beautiful, gastric place I have ever visited. the beaches so white and the sea so blue. The ride to it felt really endless and as if we were on our way to the waist or no where, but definitely go here, because you don't want to miss this. So afther we drove all the way to this beautiful beach we came across the border of haitii so we chose to visit Haitii for 5 minutes. Just walk across the border make a picture and then we continued. When we arrived we chose to take a boat trip to one of the beautiful secluded beaches. Here the sea was even bluer who would have thought that was possible. Best of all, turtles swam here too! it was certainly a real experience.
Of course there are many more beautiful destinations in this country, but that would just be too much to list here. But you will encounter most tourists in Punta Cana. here are also all resorts with unwise beautiful nature.
to end this blog post I want to tell a little story about the locals.
the locals here are all very friendly. They often do not have much to spend and that is why you see that there is a lot of trade in the street. You can already see this when you stop at a traffic light and people want to sell something small at your window. They also often travel the streets with small daredevils or by bicycle and then shout for what they are selling. This is how they earn their money. Many tourists think it is a scam but this is certainly not the case.
Fortunately the life of the locals is not so poor for all. Unfortunately, this does not apply to everyone. The poorer people live in ‘campos’. These are self-made houses often in the mountains, or in slums. I have often visited these neighborhoods myself. it pains me to see how people live. And how grateful we should be for everything we have. fortunately I can say that my family is doing well and that they can enjoy all the beauty that the Dominican Republic has to offer. Can't wait to go there again.
This was this week's blog post. I hope you liked it a little longer than usual.
See you next week with a brand new topic!
